Rep. Petri Invites Public to Attend Presentations by Summer Interns
HARRISBURG – Near the end of each summer, Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks) invites the public to attend an event at which his summer interns provide presentations on a specific topic of their choosing. These informative presentations, which are offered free to the public, are part of the critical learning that goes with being an intern in Petri’s office.

“The student interns in my office not only provide constituent service, but they are also required to study an issue of public importance and offer a presentation at the conclusion of their stay,” said Petri. “This exercise challenges them to think critically about issues that affect us, our environment and community, and requires them to demonstrate their knowledge in a public setting.”

Hanna Bigal, of New Hope, is a senior at Central Bucks High School East, where she is a member of the World Affairs and French clubs and student council. In her free time, she enjoys dance, movies and documentaries and studying foreign languages. Hanna will do a presentation on fracking, a process used in natural gas extraction that is little understood and often mired in controversy.

Meghan Solomon, of Washington Crossing, is a graduate of Council Rock High School South and a sophomore at Temple University where she is studying Global Studies and pursuing a minor in Spanish and vocal performance. She competes statewide with her A capella group at Temple and hopes to one day pursue a career in law or politics. Meghan will do a presentation on the important and timely topic of financial literacy.

“These are talented and intelligent young ladies with a bright future,” said Petri. “It has been a pleasure having them on my staff this summer and serving the citizens of the 178th Legislative District. The presentations that they are preparing require a lot of research and hard work, but we all stand to benefit from it. I am hopeful the public will turn out for this informative and worthwhile event.”

The presentations will be offered on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Free Library of Northampton Township, Community Room, 25 Upper Holland Road in Richboro.
